Blog 50: Needs VS Wants

Happy Word Wednesday! I’m Hannah.  I’m so happy to share a blog post with you all again.  I did blog post 33, it was about, Spiritual Maturity and Growth, check it out here! (https://www.generationofyoungbelievers.com/blog/blog-spiritual-maturity-and-growth ) Today we will be be discussing Needs vs. Wants. Let's dive in!

What is a need? A need is something essential in life. What is a want? A want is something you desire. Sometimes it can be hard to distinguish a need from a want. For example, a need is shelter and food; a want is toys and books. There is something called Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. At the bottom is your physical self followed by safety. Next is love/belonging then esteem. Last is self-actualization. All of these are needs in your life.

Psalms 23 describes that the Lord does not want you to want. Psalms 23:1-6 says “The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. He maketh me lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth me soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”

In these verses the Lord describes how He does not want us to want because He provides for everything we need. He doesn't want us to fear because He is there with us.

If the Lord provides for us and He is there with us, why do we want and need? This is because the devil will tempt you with things to try to say you need then when you really don’t. That’s why sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between a want and a need. It is important you understand the difference so you can not be tempted by the devil. The Lord wants you to do the right thing in choosing the things you need instead of the things you want. For example, you have a budget of $30. You see some shoes you really like but you need to buy printer paper. What would be the right choice? The shoes or the paper? Correct! The paper is what you should get.

Remember that the Lord provides for you so you should not want. The Lord wants you to choose your needs over your wants.

Have a Great week everyone! I loved doing this post!
